Chaetochromones A – C, Three New Polyketides from Mangrove Plant Derived Endophytic Fungus Phomopsis sp. SCSIO 41006

Abstract: Three new polyketides, chaetochromones A - C (1 - 3), together with a chromone (4), were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of mangrove-derived fungus Phomopsis sp. SCSIO 41006. Their structures were elucidated by means of spectroscopic techniques (UV, IR, MS, 1D- and 2D-NMR). The absolute configurations of the new compounds were established by CD data.

“…The 85 new chromone and its derivatives were described from 17 different genera of mangrove-associated fungi. The genus Phomopsis has again been well studied and has yielded many new chromone derivatives, including phomoxanthone F ( 146 ), 93 chaetochromones A–C ( 147–149 ), 94 phomochromenones A–C ( 150–152 ), 95 phomopsichins A–D ( 153–156 ), 96 phomopsol B ( 157 ), 97 and the dimer phomopsis-H76 A ( 158 ), 98 which accelerated the growth of subintestinal vessel plexus (SIV) branch markedly. The strains of Aspergillus yielded two new chromones, aspergone ( 159 ) 99 and the antifungal ( S )-5-hydroxy-2,6-dimethyl-4 H -furo[3,4- g ]benzopyran-4,8(6 H )-dione ( 160 ).…”

“…Microorganisms, especially endophytic fungi that reside in the tissue of living mangrove plants, seem to play a major role in meeting the general demand for new biologically active substances . We recently reported a range of new bioactive secondary metabolites from endophytic fungi of mangrove plants, including guignardins A–F, pestalamine A, pestalols A–E, cladosporone A, new phenyl derivatives, chaetochromones A–C, and four new meroterpenoids, some of them exerted various bioactivities including cytotoxicity, anti‐PTP1B, anti‐SIRT1, antivirus, antituberculosis, anti‐inflammatory, and antibacterial. As a continued research for discovering structurally novel and biologically active natural products from mangrove plant endophytic fungi, the fungal strain C. tropicale SCSIO 41022 was derived from leaves of the mangrove plant K. candel growing in Daya Bay, South China Sea.…”
