Chaetopteryx bucari sp. n., a new species from the Chaetopteryx rugulosa group from Croatia (Insecta, Trichoptera, Limnephilidae) with molecular, taxonomic and ecological notes on the group

Abstract: We describe a new autumnal caddisfly species Chaetopteryx bucari sp. n. from 8 localities in the Banovina region of Croatia. We also present molecular, taxonomic and ecological notes (emergence, sex ratio and seasonal dynamics) on the new species and discuss the distribution of Chaetopteryx species in general and the Chaetopteryx rugulosa group in particular. Based on Bayesian phylogenetic analysis Chaetopteryx rugulosa schmidi was separated from the clade containing the other subspecies of Chaetopteryx rugulo… Show more

“…Some other groups of aquatic insects confirm that, too (Ivković et al, 2013a(Ivković et al, , 2015Kvifte et al, 2013). These results enabled the descriptions of Berdeniella keroveci Kvifte & Ivković (Diptera, family Psychodidae) (Kvifte et al, 2013) which might be the first such case in Europe, as well as the description of C. bucari Kučinić, Szivák & Delić from Banovina (Kučinić et al, 2013).…”

“…Therefore, just like with other groups of insects, e.g. caddisflies or moth flies (Kučinić et al, 2013(Kučinić et al, , 2014Kvifte et al, 2013;Previšić et al, 2013), the number of water beetle species is expected to increase with future investigations. As for Elmidae, two additional taxa, Elmis syriaca zoufali (Kuwert 1890) and Stenelmis puberula Reitter 1887, are likely to be found in Croatia since both are known from Bosnia and Herzegovina.…”
