Challenges and Opportunities Faced by Rural Women Entrepreneurs

Abstract

The involvement of women in entrepreneurship in rural areas is closely connected to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Entrepreneurship in rural regions, by enabling women to initiate and manage enterprises, contributes to SDG 1 (No Poverty) through the creation of income-generating prospects and enhancement of livelihoods. The advancement of SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) is facilitated by the active participation of women in agricultural entrepreneurship, which contributes to the improvement of food security and the promotion of sustainable farming practices. Encouraging business among rural women is also in line with SDG 5 (Gender Equality) as it monetarily empowers women, challenges gender conventions, and enhances their decision-making authority. Moreover, entrepreneurship promotes economic expansion and the generation of employment opportunities in rural areas, so contributing to the achievement of SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).
