Challenges in transportation policy: speeding up a sustainable agri-food supply chain

Abstract: A sustainable agri-food supply chain becomes a utopia when transportation policy has no support to develop a sustainable mechanism. This study conducts a literature review to understand the footprint of a sustainable agri-food supply chain based on robust transportation policy and modelling for optimizing efficiency and customer satisfaction. This study relies on the relevant search term and reference source selection with the keyword “transportation policy” and “sustainable agri-food value chain” between 2016… Show more

“…Companies are concerned about taking the risk of installing new green practices, which requires full compliance with applicable laws and regulations, whereas compliance with environmental regulations requires real-time enforcement (Joshi, 2020), on the other hand comply with the legislative requirements; make the company safe from any supplementary charges (Elhidaoui et al ., 2020). Companies are preferably laying to give preference to solutions to deal with this barrier (Singh and Sarkar, 2019; Diabat and Govindan, 2011; Verghese and Lewis, 2007), as some countries are adopting specific regulations to encourage aligning with sustainable Agri-food supply chain (Kresnanto et al ., 2021).…”

“…The other factors that significantly impact supply chains in Europe are the digitalisation of the food system and transportation policy. The digitisation of the food system stands as a crucial and timely consideration in the shift toward a food system capable of providing universally accessible, affordable, and nutritious food while maintaining sustainability and resilience (Gebresenbet, 2021), whereas transportation policy aiming at reducing supply delays is a critical part of developing a sustainable agri-food supply chain besides the internal process in the agri-food producer (Kresnanto et al, 2021). tal, Political and Legal, Ethical and Demographic factors (Kononiuk, 2010;van Woensel, 2020).…”

“…This trend is caused by several factors, including the increase in global demand for food products from diverse sources, the emergence of food-related health risks, and increasing concern about the effects of genetically modified organisms in the human food chain and the environment in the market. To meet consumers' needs for a consistent supply of high-quality, healthy, and nutritious foods, as well as to restore public trust in the food chain, the design and implementation of complete supply chains from farm to end user becomes an important part of the food quality assurance system (Kresnanto et al, 2021). Farmers, marketers, research professionals, and policymakers need a useful understanding of supply chain traceability concepts to help develop and implement appropriate technology to meet consumer demand for a traceable agricultural supply chain (Raba et al, 2019).…”
