Changes in boar semen with a high and low level of morphologically abnormal spermatozoa

Abstract: Some shape abnormalities of spermatozoa (AS) can be a result of pathological processes that affect testicles and the epididymis tract, others can be caused genetically. Some may be caused by unsuitable rearing conditions. Some authors of the papers published in this field consider the level of AS occurrence to be an important marker for the semen quality besides the sperm motility (Leidl et al., 1971;Lyczynski and Pawlak, 1974;Blom and Andersen, 1975;Gamčík et al., 1976;Blom, 1977;Stemmler et al., 1982;Wekerle… Show more

“…Many morphological abnormalities have been related to cases of infertility [1]. Nowadays in the Czech Republic the applicability of the ejaculate for AI is limited by the MAS occurrence up to 25 % [7]. The aim of this study was to find out the seasonal effect during all year on the dynamic sperm production quality parameters with a special view to sperm morphology in boars used yearly at AI station for production insemination doses.…”

“…Отже, тепловий стрес має негативний вплив на весь організм кнурів, але насамперед це відбивається на репродуктивній системі [2,18,24]. Очевидно, що цей фактор негативно діє на морфологічні та біологічні показники сперміїв [20], і без втручання практично неможливо уникнути появи дефективних форм.…”

“…Abnormal spermatozoa, e.g., those with a damaged acrosome, tail aberrations and protoplasmatic droplets, are to some extent common in boar semen [ 31 ]. In the SR, most of the sperm population with epithelial contact maintained intact plasma membranes during the preovulatory period and showed acrosome reacted-like membrane changes during the postovulatory period [ 4 ].…”
