“…Therefore, FSH and LH production may be activated at the pituitary, if the requirement of proximate and permissive factors is satisfied. Unlike previous findings that GnRH1 and GTHs increased with vitellogenesis (Amano, Pham, Amiya, Yamanome, & Yamamori, 2008;Gen et al, 2003), little difference was seen in the transcript levels of gnrh1 between the HF and LF groups. This may be partially due to the extent of ovarian development and indirectly explained by comparing the GSI (1.22 ± 0.44) of nonbreeding HF fish with that of fully matured, spawning fish (>8.00).…”

“…An earlier study by Kim et al (2012) also reported increased levels of sbGnRH gene expression following injection with three GnRHs, and the authors suggested that sbGnRH may play an important role in the regulation of gonadal development and sex change in cinnamon clownfish. In gilthead seabream, Sparus aurata and barfin floundern Verasper moseri, the levels of sbGnRH in the pituitary of sexually mature fish were found to be higher than cGnRH-II and sGnRH levels in early recrudescent fish (Amano et al, 2008;Holland et al, 1998). Shahjahan et al (2010) also reported increased levels of sbGnRH gene expression in the spawning grass puffer, Takifugu niphobles, and suggested that sbGnRH may play a central role in final sexual maturation by stimulating GTH secretion in this species.…”

“…Like in the BPG axis of mammals, in fish GnRH is a major target of kisspeptin signaling (Parhar et al, 2004). Like in the rest of vertebrates, fish GnRHs are involved in gonadotropin secretion and gonad maturation (Amano et al, 2008). In the grass puffer, increased GnRH1 expression resulted from kiss2 and kiss2r increased expression (Shahjahan et al, 2010).…”
