“…The detailed information on the sampling site is presented in Li et al 27 The gym HR-AMS data were analyzed with ToF-AMS HR Analysis 1.26 software in Igor Pro. The mass concentrations of NR-PM 1 species were determined using the previously calibrated ionization efficiency, 28 relative ionization efficiencies, and composition dependent collection efficiency. 29 The sources of OA were determined through positive matrix factorization (PMF) analysis of high-resolution mass spectra ranging from m/z 12 to 150 30,31 following the procedures in Zhang et al 32 After evaluating the mass spectral profiles, temporal variations and correlations with tracer ions and species, and diurnal cycles, a 7-factor solution was chosen.…”

“…These sensors are favored by researchers because of their convenience and low cost. The use of sensors leads to higher spatial precision in monitoring, but the methods of component detection of particulates are still dominated by on-line aerosol mass spectrometry or off-line sampling plus laboratory testing [9][10][11][12]. Satellite remote sensing has also been used in air quality monitoring in recent years, as it can provide long-term observations with the advantages of wide spatial coverage and multi-element synchronous acquisition.…”

“…Yet despite large reductions of primary pollutant (e.g., NO 2 ) in China (Bauwens et al, 2020), there were still several haze episodes (Sun et al, 2020b;Huang et al, 2021). Besides the COVID lockdown, the emission reduction of anthropogenic activity (Zhang et al, 2015a;Yang et al, 2020), changes of aerosol composition (Kong et al, 2015;Zhao et al, 2017) and dominant role of secondary aerosol formation were also observed during the public holiday and anniversary (Lin et al, 2020;Sun et al, 2020b;Wang et al, 2021;Xu et al, 2022;Zhou et al, 2022b), which indicates that controlling local primary source emissions might have a limited effect on improving air quality in some megacities (Jiang et al, 2015). Hence, the weeklong CNY holiday can be considered as a similar condition with a nationwide emission reduction, providing us ideal experiments to explore the impacts of emission reduction on secondary aerosol formation.…”
