Changes in soil microbial community and activity caused by application of dimethachlor and linuron

Abstract: Soil microorganisms and their activities are essential for maintaining soil health and fertility. Microorganisms can be negatively affected by application of herbicides. Although effects of herbicides on microorganisms are widely studied, there is a lack of information for chloroacetamide herbicide dimethachlor. Thus, dimethachlor and well known linuron were applied to silty-loam luvisol and their effects on microorganisms were evaluated during112 days long laboratory assay. Dimethachlor and linuron were appli… Show more

“…Soil organic carbon (SOC), phosphorus, nitrogen, potassium and other essential micronutrients significantly affect the activities of the soil enzymes 44 . In the present study Fluorescein diacetate (FDA) and Dehydrogenase activity correlated with culturable microbial population or respiratory metabolism 45 . The dehydrogenase and FDA activities were higher in Shisham rhizosphere from Tanakpur where the aerobic bacterial population was also highest.…”

“…Medo et al. (2021) reported changes in soil microbial community activity by repeated application of dimethachlor and linuron. Biodegradation of phenylurea herbicide diuron was accomplished by the beta‐oxidation pathway by the soil bacteria (Li et al., 2021).…”

“…Similar findings were reported by Kumari et al (2021) with fipronil and atrazine degradation using biochip mixed biomixtures. Medo et al (2021) reported reduced DHA and FDA activity with the application of two insecticides dimethachlor and linuron.…”
