In myopic eye with a larger capsular bag, the use of the same IOL size could lead to an insufficient capsular tension, resulting in Abstract Aim: To study the performance of the implanted both one-piece and three-piece IOLs in relation to the enlarged diameters of the capsular bags of the highly myopic eyes. Subjects and Methods: Patient were randomly divided into two groups; group (A), included 25 eyes that underwent phacoemulsification with implantation of one-piece IOLs, Group (B) included 25 eyes that underwent phacoemulsification with implantation of three-piece IOLs. All patients include in this study were high myopes with axial length greater than 26.5 mm. All eyes were planned for clear lens extraction or cataract extraction. Results: In group (A), a statistically significant negative correlation was found between the diameters of the capsular bags and the diameters of the implanted on -piece IOLs. The correlation coefficient (r) is -0.56. In group (B), a statistically significant positive correlation was found between the diameters of the capsular bags and the diameters of the implanted three-piece IOLs. The correlation coefficient (r) is 0.88. Conclusion:The study of this correlation is to help in answering an important question, that is, does one diameter IOL fit every capsular bag? The statistical analyses in both groups point to statistically significant correlation between the diameters of the capsular bags and the diameters of the implanted IOLs i.e. focuses to the divergence between the size of the IOLs and that of the capsular bag.

A AB BS ST TR RA AC CT T O Ob bj je ec ct ti iv ve e: : To investigate the deterministic values of angle recess area (ARA), angle opening distances at the locations 250 µm (AOD 250 ) and 500 µm (AOD 500 ) anterior to the scleral spur and trabecular-iris angle (TIA) in patients with open angle undergoing cataract surgery. M Ma at te er ri ia al l a an nd d M Me et th ho od ds s: : Thirty-three eyes of 33 patients with open angle undergoing cataract surgery were enrolled in this study. Ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) examination was performed preoperatively and 1 month postoperatively under a standard protocol. At each examination, radial sections of the angle at four quadrants were obtained. The images were analyzed using UBM Pro 2000 software for AOD and ARA semiautomatically, and for TIA manually. R Re es su ul lt ts s: : The postoperative increases in the ARA, TIA, AOD 250 and AOD 500 were statistically significant at four quadrants (p<0.0001). The average increase in the ARA was 0.064±0.037 mm² (44%), in the AOD 250 was 0.056±0.02 mm (70%), in the AOD 500 was 0.074±0.03 mm (56%) and in the TIA was 12.3±4.8º (52%). We determined statistically significant correlations between changes in the ARA with AOD 250 (r=0.54, p=0.001) and AOD 500 (r=0.74, p=0.0001). The lowest extraction value was AOD 250 and the highest extraction value was AOD 500 in three quadrants. Differently, the highest extraction value was determined as ARA at the nasal quadrant. This may not be the case in closed or occludable angles. . Purpose: We set out to quantify changes in the anterior chamber volume (ACV), anterior chamber depth (ACD) and anterior chamber angle (ACA) measurements obtained by the Pentacam rotating Scheimpflug camera following uneventful phacoemulsification surgery in normotensive eyes with open iridocorneal angles. Methods: We enrolled 44 eyes of 44 consecutive patients undergoing cataract extraction in this prospective study. Patients with a history of glaucoma, angle‐closure glaucoma or any other concurrent ocular disease were excluded. A detailed eye examination including intraocular pressure (IOP) measurement was performed and ACV, ACD and inferior, superior, temporal and nasal ACA measurements were obtained in each patient eye using the Pentacam Comprehensive Eye Scanner (Pentacam CES) before and 3 months after phacoemulsification and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation with temporal clear corneal incision. Data were compared using paired t‐test and one‐way anova. Results: Mean preoperative ACV, ACD, ACA and IOP measurements were 164.7 ± 49.8 mm3, 3.0 ± 0.8 mm, 35.7 ± 10.2 ° and 15.8 ± 3.7 mmHg, respectively. Three months postoperatively, mean ACV, ACD, ACA and IOP measurements were 200.9 ± 33.3 mm3, 3.9 ± 0.9 mm, 41.5 ± 6.5 ° and 13.2 ± 3.9 mmHg, respectively. Postoperative mean ACV, ACD and ACA values in all four quadrants were significantly increased (p < 0.0001, p < 0.0001, p < 0.0001, respectively), whereas IOP was significantly reduced (p < 0.0001). Conclusions: The Pentacam CES allowed very easy, fast, automatic and non‐contact quantification of the anterior chamber parameters pre‐ and postoperatively in all patient eyes. Measurements obtained confirm that in normotensive eyes with open iridocorneal angles, the ACV and ACD increase and the ACA widens in all quadrants 3 months after uneventful phacoemulsification and IOL implantation. These changes are accompanied by a significant fall in IOP in the short term.
