CHANGES THE CONCENTRATION OF SELECTED PAHs IN URBAN SOILS FERTILIZED WITH MUNICIPAL SEWAGE SLUDGE

Abstract: The aim of this study was to analyze changes in the content of selected polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in urban soils fertilized with municipal sewage sludge. The factors in the experiment were three lawns along the main roads in Bialystok (in Popieluszki, Hetmanska and Raginisa Strs.), doses of sewage sludge (0 -control; 75 and 150 Mg/ha) and two years of study (2011 and 2012). The studied parameters were monitored at the end of the growing season (in October 2011 and 2012) by determining fluoranthen… Show more

“…B[ a ]P concentrations in soil ranged from <0.0001 to 3.030 mg/kg, with the highest associated with motor vehicles and hand-stocked residential furnaces [ 43 ]. In 2011 and 2012, Wydro et al [ 44 ] determined slightly lower B[ a ]P levels in soils collected in Bialystok, Poland. The concentration of B[ a ]P was from 0.3 to 0.9 mg/kg of soil.…”

“…In the remaining soils, significantly lower concentrations were found, with the lowest value of their concentration reaching the level of 546.13 µg/kg DM at the Towarowa Street. According to Wydro et al (2015), the average concentrations of 16 PAHs in the soils of Białystok in 2011-2012 ranged from 30 to 1000 µg/kg DM and they were dependent on the research plot location and seasonality. The values reported in the presented studies also turned out to be similar to the concentration of these pollutants in the downtown area of other Polish cities, characterized by low industrialization (Bielińska et al, 2011;Maliszewska-Kordybach et al, 2012).…”
