Changing trends in the disease burden of non-melanoma skin cancer globally from 1990 to 2019 and its predicted level in 25 years

Abstract: Background The disease burden of non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) has become a significant public health threat. We aimed to conduct a comprehensive analysis to mitigate the health hazards of NMSC. Methods This study had three objectives. First, we reported the NMSC-related disease burden globally and for different subgroups (sex, socio-demographic index (SDI), etiology, and countries) in 2019. Second, we examined the temporal trend of the disease b… Show more

“…To date, skin cancer is the most frequently diagnosed form of oncopathology in humans and represents a wide range of malignancies [1]. More than 40% of the total number of diagnosed cancer cases in the world is skin cancer [2]. The sharp increase in the incidence of skin cancer is explained by chronic exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UV) [3] and Disclaimer/Publisher's Note: The statements, opinions, and data contained in all publications are solely those of the individual author(s) and contributor(s) and not of MDPI and/or the editor(s).…”
