Characterization and compressive strength of fly ash based-geopolymer paste

Abstract: Abstract. Fly ash is a by-product obtained from coal combustion process. Some of the utilization of fly ash is to produce geopolymer products which have high compressive strength, fire, chemical resistance. This paper proposes fly ash from unit 1-7 Suralaya Power Plant Indonesia. The aims of this study are to obtain characterization of fly ash and mechanical properties of geopolymer paste based on variations of the alkali activator ratio. The method was based on previous research and laboratory investigation. … Show more

“…A total of 75% of fly ash was used to utilize it as much as possible, and it was mixed homogeneously. The alkali activator ratio (Na2SiO3/ 8M NaOH) was 2.5 [43]. The 8M NaOH offered the highest strength; this is in line with the previous studies [43], [44].…”

“…Figure 10 shows that the color of fly ash is yellowish-light brown. The fly ash contained finegrained material particles of a small size and smooth, spherical, and regular shape [43]. The observation that the fly ash contained particles of spherical shape, different sizes, and relatively smooth outer surface similar with the other studies.…”
