“…Scanning electron micrographs clearly showed deformation and damage of cell morphology, thus confirming the bactericidal nature of purified bacteriocins. Previous studies on bacteriocins, such as BAC-IB17 and Bac-IB45 demonstrated bactericidal action on the indicator strains that may be due to increase in membrane permeability that leads to pore formation and subsequently causes cell death (Ansari et al 2018;Ibrahim et al 2020). The above data supported the results of our study.…”

“…Another recent report on bacteriocin BAC-IB17 showed anticancer activity on HeLa cells but no cytotoxicity was found against normal cells and showed 90% of cell viability (Ansari et al 2020). Similarly, BacIB45 produced by Lactobacillus plantarum revealed 85% cell viability at inhibitory concentration after bacteriocin treatment (Ibrahim et al 2020), which supported this study. Few earlier studies also reported further characterized bacteriocins with less potential activity than bacteriocins of our present interest.…”

“…The stability of bacteriocins is crucial for their application, and although thermostability is well reported (Ansari, Zohra, Tarar, Qader, & Aman, 2018;Elyass, Mahdi, & Attitalla, 2015), it is reduced when there is the retention of activity in autoclaving conditions, as presented by Gluconacin. Other studies have also reported this characteristic in several bacteriocins (Ibrahim, Siddiqui, Aman, Qader, & Ansari, 2020;Qiao et al, 2020;Yi, Qi, Hong, Deng, & Zeng, 2020). Such properties are important and open new perspectives for large-scale production of Gluconacin.…”

“…Bacteriocin of L. plantarum KIBGE IB45 was found to be active against numerous multi-drug resistant & food-borne pathogen especially L. monocytogens. In-vitro cytotoxicity showed that Bac-ib45 was non cytotoxic protein (Ibrahim et al, 2019). The results of current investigation revealed that bacteriocin was approximately 42 fold purified with the molecular weight of approximately 20 kDa assessed by Tricin SDS PAGE.…”
