Characterization, isolation and amino terminal sequencing of a rat colon carcinoma‐associated antigen

Abstract: Monoclonal antibodies have been raised against a cell line derived from a dimethylhydrazine-induced rat colon carcinoma. One of these antibodies (MAb E4) has previously been shown to react slightly with normal small intestine and colon, and not with other normal tissues as determined by immunohistochemistry. Using Western immunoblotting we confirmed this tumor specificity. Therefore, the Mr of approx. 66,000 glycosylated antigen (pE4) recognized by MAb E4 appeared to be a potential marker of colon carcinoma. F… Show more

“…The rodent ortholog of Necl-5 (Tage4/PVR/CD155) was identified in rats as a tumor-specific marker of hepatocellular carcinoma [78,79,80] and colon carcinoma [81, 82], while Necl-5 is known as a poliovirus receptor/CD155 mediating the entry of human poliovirus [83]. In contrast to the low-level expression of Necl-5 in most adult organs, Necl-5 is overexpressed in various types of cancer cells [80,84,85,86,87] and a wide range of transformed cell lines [19, 80, 81, 84, 88].…”
