Characterization of B-cell lines from SLE patients and their relatives

Abstract: Epstein-Barr-virus (EBV)-transformed lymphoblastoid B-cell lines were generated from peripheral blood lymphocytes of 55 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and 44 healthy relatives. All donors have previously been extensively characterized with regard to clinical, serologic, and genetic parameters. Here, peripheral blood lymphocytes and lines were characterized for cell surface antigens. Furthermore, autoantibody production and proliferation rate of the cell lines were monitored. A significant dif… Show more

“…Overlap syndromes had been excluded. In previous studies these patients have been extensively characterized with regard to both clinical and laboratory parameters [10,11,12]. Since some of these parameters were not evaluated in all of the 352 patients, the correlations were performed with all the data available (for each clinical parameter data from at least 339 patients and for each laboratory parameter data from at least 101 patients).…”

“…Sera 352 SLE sera were obtained from aliquots of a stock frozen at -70掳C that was previously collected in the German SLE study [9,10,11,12,13]. All 352 patients fulfilled at least four of the ACR criteria for the diagnosis of SLE [3,4].…”
