Characterization of multiple absorbed constituents in rats after oral administration of Paederia scandens decoction

Abstract: Paederia scandens (Lour.) Merri. (Jishiteng in Chinese) is a Chinese traditional medicine widely used in treating various diseases. However, its active components have remained unknown. In the present study, a rapid and sensitive method by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HPLC-MSn) techniques was employed to investigate the absorbed constituents in rats after oral administration of Paederia scandens decoction. By comparing their MS data with those o… Show more

“…Compound 8 was tentatively described as a saccharide derivative based on bibliographic information (Spínola, Pinto, & Castilho, 2015). Compound 11 was characterized as asperuloside based on its molecular formula and previously reported fragmentation (Jiang et al, 2012). Compound 13 was characterized as esculetin based on its molecular formula and base peak at m/z 111, produced by the loss of 44 Da (CO 2 moiety) (Zhou et al, 2008).…”

“…Merr. (PSM), a traditional Chinese medicine also used as a vegetable, is a member of the “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS) category of plants used for therapeutic purposes [ 1 , 2 ]. The tender stems and leaves of PSM and Hainanese “chicken excrement fragrant cake” made with PSM are consumed as local traditional food.…”

“…Nowadays, ultra‐performance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization quadrupole time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry (UPLC–ESI–Q–TOF–MS/MS) has been widely used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of complex sample matrices, e.g. biological samples and traditional Chinese medicine extracts (Jiang et al, 2012; Xie, Zhong, & Chen, 2011; Xie, Zhong, Yu, & Chen, 2012; Zhao et al, 2013; Zhao et al, 2015; Zhou et al, 2013). In contrast with conventional high‐performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), ultra‐performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) shows higher peak efficiency and chromatographic resolution, owing to smaller column particles with a diameter of 1.8 μm.…”
