“…Thus, a broad band centred at 3310 cm ‐1 due to NH stretching vibrations (Amide A), Amide I (mainly associated with the stretching vibrations of the C═O bond) at 1,654 cm −1 , and Amide II (primarily involving bending vibrations of the N─H bond) at 1,533 cm −1 were clearly identified . These findings are in agreement with the results obtained using gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC‐MS) which revealed the use of animal glue as the main binder . Here, the use of vibrational spectroscopy has allowed for the identification of the type of binder in a very fast way and without any sample treatment.…”

“…The test results show that the sizing materials in the three pigments all contained Hyp, that is, hydroxyproline. Hydroxyproline is unique amino acid of animal collagen [19,20], which confirms that the sizing material in the pigment was animal glue. Therefore, it was determined that carbon black, cinnabar mixed with a small amount of red lead, ultramarine, and ultramarine mixed with Paris green were the main pigments, with animal glue as a sizing agent.…”

“…In Nasrid art, the finishing layer of the plasterwork acts as the preparation layer for the polychromy. This delicate finishing layer is composed of very pure gypsum probably mixed with organic additives . An example of these differences is shown in Figure .…”
