Characterization of the detector subsystem for the near-infrared spectrograph (NIRSpec) on the James Webb Space Telescope

Abstract: We present interim results from the characterization test development for the Detector Subsystem of the Near-Infrared Spectrograph (NIRSpec). NIRSpec will be the primary near-infrared spectrograph on the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). The Detector Subsystem consists of a Focal Plane Assembly containing two Teledyne HAWAII-2RG arrays, two Teledyne SIDECAR cryogenic application specific integrated circuits, and a warm Focal Plane Electronics box. The Detector Characterization Laboratory at NASA's Goddard Spa… Show more

“…8 The clocks and bias voltages were produced by the SIDECAR ASIC that also digitized the detector outputs. In our tests, a typical sample up the ramp measurement was done, in which the entire array was sampled 88 times with a 10.74 s intersample interval.…”

“…For WFIRST, the combination of: (1) Hg 1−x Cd x Te with x = 0.445 , (2) a 5 µm thick absorber, and (3) all planned science being done at wavelengths λ < 2 µm means that fringing 32 is extremely unlikely with a correctly fabricated WFIRST H4RG.…”
