Characterizing center pivot irrigation with fixed spray plate sprinklers

Abstract: An indoor experiment with a fixed spray plate sprinkler (FSPS) of 36-grooved plate D3000 was conducted to evaluate the discharge-pressure relationship, wetted diameter, effective width, and water application rate in this research. In addition, a field experiment with a center pivot system equipped with the same measured FSPS was carried out to investigate the radial and circular uniformity under different cycle times and settings of the percent-timer. A package of nozzles numbering from #9 (1.79 mm) to #33 (6.… Show more

“…For the 4.76-and 6.75-mm nozzle diameters, the wetted radii of RSPSs were higher than those of FSPSs. The wetted radii of RSPSs were slightly lower than previous results [49], while those of FSPSs were slightly higher than previous results [20,30]. These could be attributed to different sprinkler height and pressure [50], which could influence the wetted radii.…”

“…The water distribution was measured with a series of catch cans [20,30,37,38]. The catch cans for the measurement of the RSPS water distribution were arranged in a matrix according to ISO 8026 [39] and ASCE S398.1 [40].…”

“…When the groove was rotated counterclockwise by α (Qb position), f and x of each row were changed to Cubic spline interpolation has been widely applied when determining the water distribution patterns from sprinkler irrigation systems, offering smoothness and high accuracy [31,32]. However, noted issues including high radial variability in the water distribution of distinct jets, low water depths near the sprinkler, and high concentrations of water in limited regions far away from the sprinkler [33] have resulted in negative water depths following cubic spline interpolation.…”
