“…Sixty PAHs in the soils were analyzed using the method reported in our previous study (Yuan et al, 2015). Briefly, PAHs were extracted from the soils using accelerated solvent extraction (ASE 350, Dionex) according to US EPA 3545a procedure.…”

“…Rivers is one of the main contributor sources of PAHs to sea [5][6]. Because of their hydrophobic nature, PAHs have a tendency to associate with particulate matter in the aquatic environment, with underlying sediment as their ultimate sink.…”

“…Along the coast of Guang'ao Bay, four 10,000-ton berths and a 50,000-ton waterway have recently been built, and there are plans to build a 10,000-ton container dock and a 50,000-ton petrochemical dock (PASC, 2012). In addition, Yalin Bay, located in the northwest of Daya Bay, had been strongly polluted by petroleum (Yan et al, 2009;Yuan et al, 2015).…”

“…Numerous efforts have been made to understand the sources and emissions of PAHs in water, sediments, and organisms along the South China coast (Gu et al, 2013;Liang et al, 2007;Mai et al, 2003;Meng et al, 2007;Yuan et al, 2015); however, documents on the spatial-temporal trends and health risks of PAHs using oysters as indicators have remained scarce. Hence, the objectives of the present study were: (1) to investigate the spatial distribution of PAHs in oysters, Crassostrea rivularis Gould, distributed ubiquitously along the SCS coast; (2) to understand temporal trends of PAH concentrations in oysters from 2010 to 2014; (3) to identify possible sources of PAHs; (4) to assess the risks of PAH exposure to human health via oyster consumption.…”
