Abstract:Character tables represent an invaluable tool for applications of group theory in physics and chemistry. They are useful, among other applications, to carry out the projection of functions which later on constitute the basis to simplify the calculations and establish the selection rules. However, the physical interpretation of the character tables as quantum numbers is not visible. In this contribution we prove that the characters are indeed conserved quantities associated with the discrete symmetry o… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
