Chemical and Statistical Analyses of Elements in River Water of Morava E Binces

Abstract: The objective of this research was assessment of environmental toxic elements downstream the river of Morava e Binces (Kosovo) and this study is a continuation of earlier studies of surface waters in our country. The sampling and analysis are conducted in accordance with EU and WHO standards. This study uses both quantitative and qualitative analysis to assess the water quality in several points along river. The concentration of major and minor elements was determined by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectro… Show more

“…Samples for cationic water soluble constituents (calcium, magnesium and potassium) were analysed with Dionex DX 500 with CS 12A Analytical column (4×250 mm) and CG 12A guard column. Details of analytical procedures of both anionic and cationic species can be found in (Taiwo, 2013;Gashi et al, 2013). Standard calibration curves were generated with series of known salt concentrations in the series of 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 ppm.…”

“…This study about river water quality is a continuation of studies [22][23][24][25][26][27] on quality of the surface and ground waters in Kosovo. In Kishnica district there are huge flotation deposits, accumulated from flotation process of minerals from mine of Kishnica, Hajvalija, Badovci, and Artana.…”

“…As Drenica River is the most important tributary of Sitnica River, 12 the next paper presents the detailed investigation and monitoring of the Sitnica river watershed, which is the most polluted river in Kosovo. Gashi et al [13][14][15] performed research of ecotoxic metals: copper, lead, cadmium, zinc and manganese in waters of four main rivers (Drini i Bardhë, Morava e Binçës, Lepenc and Sitnica) of Kosovo and suggested to authorities concerned a monitoring network on main rivers of Kosovo. Also, the authors highlighted two locations in Sitnica River as very polluted with ecotoxic elements.…”
