Chemical composition and antibacterial activity ofLavandula coronopifoliaessential oil against antibiotic-resistant bacteria

Abstract: The aim of this study was to analyse the composition of the essential oil (EO) of Lavandula coronopifolia from Morocco and to evaluate its in vitro antibacterial activity against antibiotic-resistant bacteria isolated from clinical infections. The antimicrobial activity was assessed by a broth micro-well dilution method using multiresistant clinical isolates of 11 pathogenic bacteria: Klebsiella pneumoniae subsp. pneumoniae, Klebsiella ornithinolytica, Escherichia coli, Enterobacter cloacae, Enterobacter aerog… Show more

“…A synergistic action of the EO main compound carvacrol and erythromycin was detected in 17/23 strains using 24‐h time‐kill curves. Antimicrobial activity against multiresistant clinical isolates of 11 pathogenic bacteria of a carvacrol chemotype of Lavandula coronopifolia was assessed . In a recent study, Thyme EO is able to reduce of 59.7–85.0 % biofilm biomass formed by methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains, while Lavandula multifida L. EO showed anti‐MRSA activity since the inhibition diameters reached 27 mm and MIC s were lower than 0.1 μg/mL in a study against 14 strains .…”
