“…Their results demonstrated that the samples were dominated on average by β-pinene (22.73%) and α-pinene (10.55%), which agrees with our study. Likewise, the studies by Roussis et al [ 30 ] and Tsasi et al [ 31 ] revealed β-pinene (19.8%) and α-pinene (10.9%), and β-pinene (26.9%), bornyl acetate (12.5%) and α-pinene (10.1%) to be the main components in FEOs obtained from the South Balkans and Greece areas, respectively.…”

“…The findings suggested a likely mechanism involving the disruption of bacterial cell membranes [45] . In a separate study, germacrone demonstrated fungistatic activity against various species of Aspergillus and Penicillium [46] . Apart from its antimicrobial effects, germacrone was also found to enhance G2/M phase cell cycle arrest, leading to the promotion of apoptosis in a gastric cancer cell line [47] .…”

“…[45] In a separate study, germacrone demonstrated fungistatic activity against various species of Aspergillus and Penicillium. [46] Apart from its antimicrobial effects, germacrone was also found to enhance G2/M phase cell cycle arrest, leading to the promotion of apoptosis in a gastric cancer cell line. [47] Furthermore, the essential oil of C. xanthorrhiza has been suggested to exert its antibacterial activity mainly due to the presence of xanthorrhizol.…”

“…The major components of young leaves were germacrone (34.59 %), curzerene, (26.56 %) and germacrene (12.72 %), and those of mature leaves were curzerene (35.75 %), germacrene B (19.22 %) and (caryophyllene, 12.55 %). Previous studies testing the fungicidal effect of isolated compounds have demonstrated that germacrone, which accounted for approximately one‐third of the composition of the EO of E. uniflora , is a potent inhibitor of growth in different fungal species, even exceeding the inhibitory effect of known commercial fungicides [67] . These results support the hypothesis that this compound, which was found here at high concentrations only in the EO of E. uniflora , may be responsible for the high inhibition of hyphal growth.…”
