“…The major compound was 2-undecanone with proportions up to 85.94 and 89.89% in leaves and flowers, respectively. Abundance of 2-undecanone in both essential oils is completely in accordance with previous findings on R. chalepensis essential oils composition from Tunisia (Ben-Bnina et al, 2010;Mejri et al, 2010;Saidani-Tounsi et al, 2011) and Algeria (Merghache et al, 2009;Haddouchi et al, 2013). Even if the chemical composition of oils varies, essential oils have been considered potentially promising compounds for the treatment of numerous pathogenic agents such as gastrointestinal nematodes (Olounladé et al, 2012) and insects (You et al, 2014).…”

“…It has been reported that there is a relationship between the chemical structures of the most abundant compounds in the tested oils, the proportions in which they are present and their pharmacological activities (Dorman and Deans, 2000;Delaquis et al, 2002;Haddouchi et al, 2013). In fact, according to Ben-Bnina et al (2010) and Haddouchi et al (2013), R. chalepensis essential oil where the major compound is a ketone, has strong antifungal and antibacterial activities. Interestingly, Ntalli et al (2011) reported for the first time an irreversible nematicidal activity of ketones as constituents of R. chalepensis against Meloidogyne javanica and M. incognita.…”

“…Essential oil had been generated in sweet orange and grape fruit (C. paradisi) peels (Ezejiofor et al, 2011;Okunowo et al, 2013) and the antimicrobial activities of grape peel oil had been documented (Okunowo et al, 2013). Essential oils in plant products have tremendous applications in food, cosmetic and aromatherapy (Ramadan et al, 1996;Haddouchi et al, 2013;Narmadha et al, 2013). Research in medicinal chemistry have also shown that screening plant products for antimicrobial activities have led to detection and development of new potential anti-infective agents (Ordonez et al, 2003;Arias et al, 2004;Rasool et al, 2008).…”
