Chemical Composition and Antioxidant DPPH Activity of the Floral and Leaves Essential Oils of cMontanoa speciosa</i> DC

Abstract: The essential oils obtained by hydrodistillation from leaves and flowers of Montanoa speciosa collected in southeastern Mexico (Yucatan) were analyzed by GC-MS. A total of 71 and 79 components, representing 98.44% and 97.69% of the leaf and flower oils, respectively, were characterized. The main constituents found were β-caryophyllene (20.73%, 17.95%), δ-cadinene (9.88%, 9.28%), caryophyllene oxide (9.48%, 8.68%), and germacrene D (6.94%, 5.85%). The essential oils were screened for their antioxidant potential… Show more

“…The oxidative damage to neurons is closely related to the pathogenesis of AD [ 24 ]. In this article, the anti-oxidative activity of compounds 1 – 20 was evaluated by DPPH assay with Vitamin C (Vc) as the positive control [ 25 ]. The free radical scavenging ability was evaluated based on the UV absorbance change of the solution measured at 517 nm using a microplate reader [ 26 ].…”

“…The antioxidant activity of extracted mango kernel butter was determined spectrophotometrically (Ruiz‐Ciau et al, 2017). A methanolic solution of oil 750 μl of a particular concentration (0.02 mg/ml) was placed inside test tubes and a methanolic solution of DPPH (1.5 ml, 20 ppm) was added to each tube.…”

“…This test is based on the reduction in the purple DPPH radical using an oxidizing antioxidant. The scavenging effects of vitamin C and caffeic acid corresponded to the quenching intensity of 1.1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), as carried out by [31,34]. A wavelength of 520 nm was set to measure the reduction in the purple DPPH radical.…”
