“…Until now, more than 3000 EOs have been described; of which about one tenth are of relevance to the pharmaceutical, nutritional or cosmetic industries. EOs has been found to boast many useful bioactivities particularly the antimicrobial activities which have formed the basis for the development of new alternative remedies/therapeutics for the control and prevention of human diseases [3]. Applications of EOs are often considered quite safe and effective with no side effects.…”

“…The methanol-soluble extract which contains the most polar phytochemicals showed the strongest antioxidant effect in all test systems. Moreover, Sepahvand et al [51] indicated that essential oil extracted from the aerial parts of Salvia sclareoides includes rather higher proportions of non-terpenoid and sesquiterpenes compounds with high antioxidant activities. Furthermore, it was shown that each essential oil and aqueous extract of ginger can be utilized together as a source of natural antioxidants that act more efficiently against lipid oxidation compared to aqueous extract [52].…”

“…Chemical composition of the essential oils of plants and spices can vary depending upon genetic and growth stage, age of the plant, part of the plant, seasonal and environmental condition, geographical location, the method used in extraction of the essential oil and other factors. 3,13,17,18 In case of Z. clinopodioides essential oil, chemical composition has been subjected to several studies in different parts of Iran. [7][8][9][10] In contrast with our results, some authors reported pulegone, imonene and methyl acetate as the major abundant of their essential oil content.…”
