Copper Copper I 7400 Chemical Reactivity of Tetrasulfur Tetranitride: Synthesis, Physical Properties, and Structural Characterization of the Amorphous Phase Cu 7 S 4 N 4 . -The black-blue, totally amorphous title material is prepared by reaction of S4N4 with elemental Cu in inert solvents such as CH2Cl2 or CCl4 (25°C, 5 d). The compound is characterized by XRD, IR, EXAFS, TEM, and quantum chemical DFT calculations for extended solids. All the results indicate an energetically high-lying metastable material which contains S 4 N 4 units embedded into a Cu host. The title compound explodes if heated above 234°C or when subjected to mechanical shock. -(IRSEN, S. H.; KROLL, P.; DRONSKOWSKI*, R.; WEIRICH, T. E.; EPPLE, M.; Z. Anorg. Allg.
