Chemically modified rice husk as an effective adsorbent for removal of palladium ions

Abstract: Bio-matrix of rice husk and Mobil Composition of Matter No. 41 (MCM-41) was modified with alizarin red S for preconcentration of Pd 2+ prior flame atomic absorption spectrometric determination. The prepared bio-matrix (RH@MCM-41@ARS) was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (SEM/EDX) and surface area studies. The impact of differe… Show more

“…[34] In Zr-IMDT/rGOAEY, peaks at 1566.64 and 646.95 cm −1 can be associated with C═C, and C─Br stretching vibrations indicating the successful sorption of the EY molecules. [35] The formation of Zr-IMDT/rGOH was tested through the "tube inversion method" as shown in Due to the relatively low peak intensity of the rGO at around 25°and overlapping with the ligand, the Zr-IMDT/rGOA only exhibits the representative characteristic peaks of IMDT. This also concludes the successful incorporation of the ligand on the surface of GO.…”

“…5 Certain palladium compounds have been described as a potential threat to people, causing asthma, allergies, rhino conjunctivitis, and other major health problems, and are easily transmitted to biological material and eventually amplied along the food chain. 6,7 Palladium salts have been proven to be highly toxic to aquatic plants even at low concentrations. 8 According to a World Health Organization report, 9 data on Pd 2+ losses from automobile exhaust emission control catalysts is currently sparse.…”

“…The presence of silanols' functions confers the adsorption properties for the rice husk [15,16], inducing the adsorption of cationic and anionic dyes [17]. Rice hulls attract attention because they are good adsorbents and offer many possibilities for modi cation and functionalization [18,19].…”
