Abstract:179ChemInform Abstract The alkali metal salts (I), derived from formanilides, are coupled with 4,6-dinitrobenzofuroxan (II) to generate the Meisenheimer complexes (III). These are converted to the target compounds (IV) upon heating in an aqueous solution. A one-pot modification of this method consists in treatment of the formanilides (V) with aqueous sodium hydroxide and subsequent refluxing in the presence of the furoxan (II). (Mechanism).
