Abstract

A Simple Colloidal Route to Planar Micropatterned Er@ZnO Amplifiers.-The synthesis of micropatterned films of Er@ZnO, i.e. Er 3+ entrapped in ZnO nanoparticles, based on the dissolution of Er(OAc) 3 in ZnO colloids is described. Functionalization with tetravalent atoms such as Si or Sn allows the tuning of the refractive index and the optical gain in the near-IR region of the ZnO nanocrystals containing sol-gel layers.
