Bromination of 8-Methoxy(2.2) metacyclophanes.-Cyclocondensation reaction of the bisbromomethylbenzenes (I) with 2,6-bis(mercaptomethyl)anisole (II) yields the (3.3)dithiametacyclophanes ( III). These are oxidized to give the bissulfones (IV) which are subjected to gas-phase pyrolysis, forming the 8-methoxy(2.2) metacyclophanes (V). Bromination of (Va) and (Vb) using benzyltrimethylammonium tribromide produces mixtures of the corresponding compounds (VI) -(VIII), whereas from (Vc) only the compound (VIIIc) is obtained. -(YAMATO, T.; IDE, S.; TOKUHISA, T.; TASHIRO, M.; J.
