Abstract: The reaction of the ester (V) (obtained starting from the hydroxytetrahydropyrane (I) via the intermediate (III)) with Hg(O‐Ac)2 in the presence of CaO and MeOH (VI) followed by reduction affords a cis‐trans mixture of the cyclopentane derivatives (VII).
