ChemInform Abstract: Phenanthrylalkanoic Acids. Part 4. Syntheses and Antiinflammatory Activity of 2‐, 3‐, and 9‐Phenanthryl and 9‐Chloro‐3‐phenanthryl Derivatives of Propanoic Acid.
Abstract:158ChemInform Abstract The title compounds (VI) are prepared as outlined in the reaction scheme. The most difficult step in the sequence proves to be the conversion of the chlorides (III) to the nitriles (V), because the ketones (I) are formed as by-products and the reaction proceeds incompletely. The acids (VI) show antiinflammatory activity on carrageenin-induced edema with ED50 values in the range of 37 to 83 mg/kg.
