Abstract: ChemInform Abstract The most convenient route to the title anhydride (VI) is the one-pot reaction of N-benzylaspartic acid (V), derived from maleic anhydride (I), with 30% HBr in AcOH and Ac2O. (VI) is selectively esterified to afford the product (VII).
