ChemInform Abstract: Silica Based Superhydrophobic Coating for Long‐Term Industrial and Domestic Applications.

Abstract

Applications. -A MeOH/H 2O solution containing MeSi(O-Et)3, HO2C-CO2H, and NH 3 is hydrolysized for 15 h at 20 C before being sprayed on Ge, brass, steel, Cu, and glass substrates (2 min, 125 C, 40% rel. humidity) and subsequently dried (150 C, 2 h). Corrosive chloride solutions and HNO3 (69-70%) are used to test the anticorrosive performance of the resulting silica-based coating at room temperature. The as-prepared superhydrophobic coating shows outstanding long-term durability, mechanical stability, self-cleaning ability, thermal stability, and acid resistance. SEM images of surfaces are provided together with wettability data comprising measurements of surface roughness, water contact and sliding angle, and air fraction before and after coating application. -(MAHADIK*, S.
