Abstract

2000 stereochemistry stereochemistry (general, optical resolution) O 0030 -033Synthesis and Stereoselective Aldol Reaction of Dihydroxyacetone Derivatives.-A new efficient synthesis of dihydroxyacetone derivatives including dihydroxyacetone silyl enol ethers (III) and (VII) and their stereoselective aldol reactions with aldehydes are described. TiCl 4 -mediated aldol reactions of silyl enol ether (III) with aldehydes give syn-products, while the reaction of silyl enol ether (VII) with aldehydes affords only anti aldol products.
