“…Chemotherapy is based on the anatomical staging of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) and a prognostic scoring system devised by the World Health Organisation and modified by FIGO. Methotrexate or actinomycin is usually used as a single agent, while methotrexate, actinomycin-D, and cyclophosphamide (MAC) or etoposide, methotrexate, actinomycin-D, cyclophosphamide, and vincristine (EMA-CO) combinations are used as multiple treatment modalities (21). Cures are obtained in 100% of the low-risk group and 80-90% of the high-risk group (20,22,23).…”

“…Some literatures suggest that EMA-EP should be used as the first line chemotherapy instead of EMA-CO because response rate of EMA-EP is better than EMA-CO (Cyriac S et al, 2011. However, some still insist to use EMA-CO as the first line treatment (Lurain et al, 2010;Alazzam et al, 2012;Deng et al, 2013). In our institution, we usually use VAC as a first line treatment of high risk GTN.…”

“…In patients who resisted second line chemotherapy, third line chemotherapy may be considered. Several regimens were proposed as third line treatment such as TP/TE, BEP, ICE, Carboplatin/ Gemcitabine (Bianconi et al, 2007;Wong et al, 2008;Patel et al, 2010;Feng et al, 2011;Alazzam et al, 2012;Lurain et al, 2012). The efficacy of those regimens was acceptable (Bianconi et al, 2007;Feng et al, 2011;Lurain et al, 2012).…”

“…Gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN) is a term used for the persistent/malignant disorders. 1 Half a century ago, before the introduction of chemotherapy in the management of GTN, mortality rates associated with invasive moles reached 15%, more frequently due to haemorrhage, sepsis, embolic phenomena or surgical complications. In the presence of metastases, choriocarcinoma had a mortality rate of 100%, and of about 60% when hysterectomy was performed to treat apparent non-metastatic disease.…”
