CHI3L2 Is a Novel Prognostic Biomarker and Correlated With Immune Infiltrates in Gliomas

Abstract: CHI3L2 (Chitinase-3-Like Protein 2) is a member of chitinase-like proteins (CLPs), which belong to the glycoside hydrolase 18 family. Its homologous gene, CHI3L1, has been extensively studied in various tumors and has been shown to be related to immune infiltration in breast cancer and glioblastoma. High CHI3L2 expression was reported to be associated with poor prognosis in breast cancer and renal cell carcinoma. However, the prognostic significance of CHI3L2 in glioma and its correlation between immune infilt… Show more

“…CHI3L1 was found in a subset of activated astrocytes [ 16 ], monocytes/macrophages [ 12 ]. CHI3L2 has been detected in macrophages [ 17 ]; curiously, it has been reported in neuronal cells from the cerebral cortex ( ), but its expression in ALS tissues has not been described so far. As such, the origin of CSF CHI3L2 is currently unknown.…”

“…CHI3L1 was detected in a subset of activated astrocytes in the white matter of the motor cortex and spinal cord of ALS patients [ 16 ], as well as in monocytes/macrophages, chondrocytes, synovial cells and osteoclasts [ 12 ]. CHI3L2 has been detected in macrophages, tumor cells [ 17 ] and cartilage chondrocytes [ 12 ].…”

“…The TME includes a repertoire of cell clusters (such as tumor cells, immune cells, and fibroblasts) and plays a diverse role in cancer biology [ 49 ]. Previous research suggested that the main difficulty in treating glioma is the therapeutic resistance owing to its complex metabolic characteristics and highly immunosuppressive microenvironment [ 50 ]. However, the relationship between CISD2 and immune infiltration in glioma remains unclear.…”

“…CHI3L2 is secreted by astrocytes and is a secretory protein. It can induce an autoimmune response (Liu et al, 2021 ). Studies have shown that this gene primarily plays a role in inflammation, and its overexpression is associated with a variety of pathological conditions (Kzhyshkowska et al, 2016 ).…”
