Chicken bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells improve lung and distal organ injury

Abstract: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are associated with pulmonary protection and longevity. We separated chicken bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs); investigated whether BM-MSCs can improve lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced lung and distal organ injury; and explored the underlying mechanisms. Ninety-six male ICR (6 weeks old) mice were randomly divided into three groups: Sham, LPS, and LPS + MSC groups. The mice were intratracheally injected with 5 mg/kg LPS to induce acute lung injury (ALI). The hi… Show more

“…Furthermore, MSCs can reverse the epithelialmesenchymal transition (EMT) process through inhibiting NF-κB and Hedgehog pathways [81]. MSCs can also reduce the expression of both TRL4 and Mdy88 mRNAs [82]. Moreover, MSCs can stimulate the production of anti-inflammatory IL-10 by macrophage cells, and thereby increase the protection against sepsis-associated the ARDS [48,53].…”

“…The biologically active cargo of EVs, such as RNA, proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids, have the potential to alter the function of recipient cells. [2][3][4] EVs from certain sources, such as mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and adipose tissue from healthy donors, have been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in in vitro and in vivo disease models; [3,[5][6][7] however, EVs derived from biogenic sources have not yet received approval for use in humans. [8] Blood and plasma transfusions provide trillions of EVs to the recipient and have documented low-risk safety profiles suggesting that they could be good therapies.…”

“…BMSCs have been isolated from many species, including chickens, sheep, cats, dogs, rats, mice, and humans ( Svoradova et al., 2021 ). The directional differentiation of BMSCs was determined by the presence of different stimuli ( Niu et al., 2021 ). BMSC can be used as an avian culture model to better understand osteogenic process due to their easy isolation, and in vitro proliferation ( Eleuteri and Fierabracci, 2019 ).…”
