Abstract:Chronic undernutrition in early childhood affects the development of multiple organ systems and has permanent and detrimental effects on adult health and human capital. Long periods of malnutrition during infancy manifest as a faltering in linear growth known as “stunting.” Stunting is strongly associated with metabolic disorders such as obesity and diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, and delays in cognitive development.
