In the process of development, global economies are prioritizing environmental protection and firms are also recognizing the importance of minimizing environmental impact during production along with maximization of profits through green investments. It is vivid that green investments are vital for environmental preservation. So this paper contributes to literature by investigating the role of internal and external factors affecting the decision making of Chinese firms regarding adoption of green investments and impact of green investments on environmental, social, and economic performance of firms. The data is collected from directors/senior managers of the firms. We received 463 valid responses from listed companies with Shenzhen, Beijing, and Shanghai Stock Exchange. The “structural equation modeling” with “maximum likelihood estimation” is employed for empirical analysis. The empirical findings reveal that adaptation to climate change and its mitigation is the most important driver of green investment. Moreover, green investment positively contributes to enhancing the social, economic, and environmental performances of Chinese firms. Based on the findings of the study, green investment should be adopted as a corporate strategy by firms for profit maximization, competitive advantage, and improvement in social well-being without compromising the environment. Policy makers can promote green investment by offering policy instruments such as tax incentives, guaranteed credits, grants, and investor education. Training courses may be offered to raise environmental awareness among firms and the general public.

Enterprises, as key emitters, play a vital role in promoting sustainable development. Corporate sustainability disclosure provides a key channel for stakeholders to gain insights into a company’s sustainability progress. However, few studies have been conducted to measure sustainability disclosure at the firm level. In this study, we apply the machine learning techniques to listed companies’ management discussion and analysis (MD&A) documents and construct a dataset on corporate sustainability disclosure, including the Corporate Sustainability Disclosure Index (CSDI), CSDI_Economic Dimension (CSDI_ECO), CSDI_Environmental Dimension (CSDI_ENV), and CSDI_Social Dimension (CSDI_SOCI). The dataset will be updated annually. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first sustainability disclosure dataset constructed at the firm level. Our dataset reflects corporate managements’ sustainability attitudes and promotes the implementation of corporate sustainability strategies and subsequent sustainable economic and social outcomes.

Effectively identifying the role and mechanism of green finance in environmental governance provides an important guarantee that green finance serves the ecological environment. Based on the panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2001 to 2015, this paper explores the impact of green finance on cleaner industrial production and end-ofpipe treatment and further reveals the mediating effect of industrial structure optimization and the moderating effect of environmental regulation. The results show that (1) China's cleaner industrial production performance, end-of-pipe treatment performance and systematic governance performance show a clear upwards trend, and the endof-pipe treatment performance was generally better than the cleaner production performance. (2) Green finance promotes cleaner production performance but inhibits end-of-pipe treatment performance. The optimization of industrial structure plays a partial intermediary role in the impact of green finance on cleaner production and end-of-pipe treatment. (3) Both "market-incentive" and "commandand-control" environmental regulations weaken the positive impact of green finance on cleaner production; "market-incentive" environmental regulation alleviates the negative impact of green finance on end-ofpipe treatment, while the moderating effect of "command-and-control" environmental regulation on end-of-pipe treatment is not significant.
