Chinese expert consensus and practice guideline of totally implantable access port for digestive tract carcinomas

Abstract: Totally implantable access port is a fully implantable drug delivery system that is implanted subcutaneously and can be retained for a long time. Advantages of ports include a simple nursing process, low risk of infection and embolism, and high patient comfort. In order to promote the standardized application of ports in the treatment of digestive tract tumors and reduce port-related complications, the Chinese Research Hospital Association Digestive Tumor Committee, the Chinese Association of Upper Gastrointes… Show more

“…A new gastric cancer screening scoring system has been proposed in the expert consensus opinion of the early gastric cancer screening process in China. [10][11][12] It included 5 variables with a total score of 23: (1) Age: 0 for 40-49, 5 for 50-59, 6 for 60-69, and 10 for >69; (2) Sex: 4 for male and 0 for female; (3) Helicobacter pylori infection (Hp antibody test): positive 1, negative 0; (4) PGR: ≥3.89 is 0, <3.89 is 3; (5) G-17: less than 1.50 is 0, 1.50-5.70 is 3, greater than 5.70 is 5. The screening population was divided into 3 grades according to the score, 0-11 into low-risk group, 12-16 into medium risk group and 17-23 into high-risk group (Table 2).…”

“…A Port-A-Cath is a type of central venous catheter [CVC] which is used for intravenous access in patients who need frequent intravascular provision of uids, blood products, drugs, parenteral nutrition, and hemodialysis [1,2,3]. Previous studies have found that use of a Port-A-Cath was associated with a signi cantly lower complication rate compared with Hickman lines among patients undergoing chemotherapy [4].…”

“…Previous studies have found that use of a Port-A-Cath was associated with a signi cantly lower complication rate compared with Hickman lines among patients undergoing chemotherapy [4]. Currently, a Port-A-Cath is often placed in cancer patients for chemotherapy because the chemotherapy drugs are strongly irritating to blood vessels and may cause skin necrosis [3,5].…”

“…[6][7][8][9] Once infection occurs, patients would be forced to remove the infusion port, due to the risk of systemic, and even life-threatening, infections. 10 Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the risk factors leading to postoperative infection in connection with the use of infusion port to further minimize the infection and to develop the corresponding measures for the prevention and treatment of infection.…”
