Chiral selectors in CE: Recent developments and applications (2012‐mid 2014)

Abstract: There is a large number of chiral selectors (CSs) that have, over the years, been synthesized and used in electrophoretic enantioseparations. This report highlights the most important CSs applied in CE during the period 2012 to mid-2014. It is mainly focused on method developments and validations, along with pharmaceutical and biomedical applications. Even though numerous publications have, through the years, reported the utilization of CSs in enantioseparations, only the ones applied in electrophoretic techni… Show more

“…Thus, it is critical to choose a suitable chiral selector (CS) to create a chiral environment. Many compounds with chiral center can be used as chiral selectors (CSs), such as cyclodextrins (CDs) [17][18][19], crown ether [20], copper-amino acid complexes [21], antibiotics [22][23][24], chiral micelles [25], and proteins [26,27]. Among these chiral selectors, natural CDs and their derivatives have been used extensively in chiral separations.…”

“…HPLC, SFC and CE play an irreplaceable role in separation of chiral compounds . Although numbers of various chiral selectors (CSs) for CE and chiral stationary phases (CSPs) for HPLC and SFC have been prepared and described , the synthesis and the study of the enantiorecognition mechanisms of new CSs and CSPs is still necessary.…”

“…CZE, with a BGE that contains CD as a CS, is the most frequently used operating mode of chiral CE . However, in some cases, utility of one single CS in a chiral separation system is not effective to achieve satisfactory separation results.…”
