Abstract: The discovery of the potent antiviral activity of oxathiolanyl and dioxolanyl nucleosides prompted the extensive exploration of the chemistry and biology of heterosubstituted nucleoside analogs, in which the sugar moiety is replaced by a diheterocyclic ring.
