Chitosan-based foliar application modulated the yield and biochemical attributes of peach (Prunus persica L.) cv. Early Grand

Abstract: Background Peach fruits are highly perishable leading to many pre- and post-harvest problems, which adds to the reduction in the potential yield and productivity. Chitosan is a natural polysaccharide, produced after alkaline chitin deacetylation. It is one of the most preferred biopolymers due to its biocompatibility, antioxidant, anticancer, biodegradability, antimicrobial, and non-toxic properties as well as being an economical material. A pre-harvesting experiment was carried out based on the problems of pe… Show more

“…While, the decrease in the level of citric acid and amino acids after chitosan application might be due to the redirection of carbon skeletons resulting from glycolysis towards other metabolic pathways, especially those of vitamin C and inositol biosynthesis as well as anaerobic metabolism. This is in agreement with the results obtained by Sajid et al [9].…”

“…For nectarines and peach, chitosan has also proven to be an interesting strategy to enhance the quality of fruits: nectarines treated with chitosan presented firmer pulp and higher soluble solids content [118], while, for peach, in addition to increased fruit dimensions and weight, higher yield, fruit firmness, acidity, and ascorbic acid were also found [119]. Yield, fruit dimension, and plant growth of mango were also improved by the application of chitosan [120].…”

“…In order to increase leaf greenness and sugar status, seedlings may need to be provided with critical nutrients (Wingler et al, 2006;Engels et al, 2012). Ncarboxymethyl Chitosan applied to maize increased the amount of N and N protein as well as the activity of vital N metabolic enzymes (Sajid et al, 2020;Boamah et al, 2023). The nutrient nitrogen is well-known for being necessary for the synthesis of numerous enzymes, cytokinin, and chlorophyll.…”
