Chordoid Meningioma: A Case Report

Abstract: The term "chordoid meningioma" means meningioma, which is pathologically similar to chordoma, and previously reported that rarely associated with microcytic anemia and/or dysgammaglobulinemia especially in pediatric population. We present a case of this rare variant, which comprises less than 0.5% of all meningiomas. A 33-yr-old man visited our hospital, complaining visual field defect worsening over 7 yr. Neurological examination showed left homonymous hemianopsia. The brain magnetic resonance imaging reveale… Show more

“…Nine patients were reviewed from 1743 total meningioma patients in a 1995 to 2013 time period at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto. To the best of our knowledge, 221 cases of CM have been reported in the English literature worldwide in the form of single case reports and/or case series …”

“…For diagnostic confirmation, immunohistochemical staining is of great help. Chordoid meningiomas express membranous immunoreactivity for EMA and are mostly negative for S‐100 protein and CAM5.2 1,3–8 . In contrast, chordomas show strong widespread staining for cytokeratin, EMA, and frequently S‐100 protein 14–16 .…”
