Chronic Subdural Hematoma Caused by Acute Myeloblastic Leukemia: A Case Report

Abstract: Chronic subdural hematoma, a common neurosurgical disease, is mostly caused by craniocerebral trauma. Chronic subdural hematoma caused by acute myeloblastic leukemia is rarely reported, and its pathogenesis and strategies for clinical treatment remain controversial. Here, we report a rare case of chronic subdural hematoma caused by acute myeloblastic leukemia. “…Spontaneous SDHs are rare and occur secondary to coagulopathy disorders, often in the setting of a hematological malignancy. Patients with acute leukemia can present with SDH either at the time of initial diagnosis or later during the course of the illness [8]. A spontaneous SDH can be the presenting manifestation of acute leukemia and CML [8][9][10][11].…”

“…Only a few reports in the literature have described the clinical course of patients with AML and refractory CSDH. 9 , 13) In one case report, the hematoma was surgically evacuated, and then oral atorvastatin was administered, resulting in no recurrence of the CSDH. 13) One large study included two cases of refractory CSDH and associated AML that were treated using MMA embolization.…”

“…Sometimes, chronic subdural hematomas can occur due to hematological malignancies [ 5 ]. A case of chronic subdural hematoma caused by acute myeloblastic leukemia in a 67-year-old male has been reported [ 6 ].…”
