CIK Receptor Kinases Determine Cell Fate Specification during Early Anther Development in Arabidopsis

Abstract: Appropriate cell division and differentiation ensure normal anther development in angiosperms. BARELY ANY MERISTEM 1/2 (BAM1/2) and RECEPTOR-LIKE PROTEIN KINASE2 (RPK2), two groups of leucine-rich repeat receptor-like protein kinases, are required for early anther cell specification. However, little is known about the molecular mechanisms underlying these two RLK-mediated signaling pathways. Here, we show that CLAVATA3 INSENSITIVE RECEPTOR KINASEs (CIKs), a group of novel coreceptor protein kinase-controlling … Show more

“…Remarkably, InsP 6 and especially InsP 7 are more potent enablers of the assembly of the JA-receptor complex than InsP 5 (Laha et al, 2015(Laha et al, , 2016. Computational modeling predicted InsP 8 to be a more favorable ligand for COI1, inducing conformational changes that stabilize formation of the JA-COI1-JAZ receptor complex (Cui et al, 2018). Genetic disruption of VIH2 impaired JAdependent responses against herbivore larvae and necrotrophic pathogens (Laha et al, 2015).…”

“…The primary sporogenous cells divide further to generate a diploid pre-meiotic sporogenous tissue within each pollen sac (Goldberg et al , 1993). This complex developmental program involves multiple signalling pathways controlled by the cooperation of several receptor-like protein kinases (Cui et al , 2018). The anther is thus a sophisticated organ made of multiple somatic tissues that harbour and support meiotic cells to generate and release the viable pollen that are necessary for successful fertilization and new seed formation.…”
