Circular RNA expression in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

Abstract: The regulatory roles of circular RNAs (circRNAs) in cancer are attracting increasing attention. The aim of the present study was to explore the roles of circRNAs in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) using microarray data. The circRNA and microRNA (miRNA) microarray data were downloaded from Gene Expression Omnibus. A total of 256 differentially expressed circRNAs were obtained by analyzing the circRNA microarray data from 26 pairs of PDAC and adjacent normal tissues. Differentially expressed miRNAs were … Show more

“…22,23 CircRNAs had been proved to be involved in the development, chemotherapy resistance, proliferation, invasion, and prognosis of PC. [24][25][26] In our study, the level of circHIPK3 was increased in PC tissues, GEMresistant PC tissues, and GEM-resistant PC cells. PC patients with high expression of circHIPK3 displayed poorer overall survival than those with lower circHIPK3 expression.…”

“…CircRNAs are widely considered to act as vital regulators under multiple physiological and pathological conditions. Studies have shown that circRNAs are abundantly expressed in pancreatic tissues and are related to the development and progression of pancreatic diseases (Xu et al, 2015;Zhang et al, 2019). Stoll et al (2018) reported that circHIPK3 and ciRS-7/CDR1as impaired insulin secretion by regulating the expression of key β-cell genes in diabetic conditions.…”

“…One study identified circRNAs in six pairs of PDAC and para-cancerous tissues using a microarray (74). Additional microarray data revealed that there were 115 upregulated and 141 downregulated circRNAs in PDACs (75). Another study uncovered that 453 circRNAs were differentially expressed and were significantly different in extracellular vesicles isolated from the plasma of 8 PDAC patients or healthy controls (76).…”
